Pretty to Look At, But Don't Eat - Not Asparagus

Customers have asked us if the lucky bamboo can be eaten like asparagus, since they say the bamboo stems looks so much like asparagus stems.

I got in touch with our grower, Ah-Yuan in Taiwan, to verify whether the bamboo can be poisonous or not. Ah-Yuan said, "We are pretty advanced; we know what we are doing. Just like what I have said before, we are concerned for our environment and people's health, so we only use the light pesticides on the bamboo that last for only 3 hours each time."

"I know the underdeveloped or developed countries are still using the heavy pesticides that could last on the plants between one month and one year."

So even though the plant by itself may not hurt people or animals, we at Nature Perfect do not recommend anyone to eat the lucky bamboo, because we still need to be cautious about the poisonous pesticides that may remain on the plants. So depending on where you purchase your lucky bamboo these days, it is best to err on the side of caution, and not eat the lucky bamboo. After all, the lucky bamboo plant gift arrangements are not meant for human consumption, but their purpose is to bring beauty and decorum to your home and office!
